GMS’s art program, “EduArts”, is based on a method created by Mona Brooks.  She is the author of the book called “Drawing with Kids”.

 

Mona states, “Everyone loves to draw if they are given a nonthreatening environment with enough structure for success and enough freedom for creativity”.

 

The instruction is centered on using shapes and lines as found in written language to create drawings.  Children then learn facts relating to the subject and write about their “research”.

 

When you draw what you are learning, you will learn it quicker and retain it longer.  Art develops perceptual and analytical skills which increases critical thinking and problem solving.

 

Our art teacher, Ms. Nancy, personally trained and certified by Mona Brooks, is also trained and instructs our supplemental reading and writing programs as well.
